Iztok Klančar

Tutor

Iztok Klančar (b. 1980, Trbovlje, Slovenia) is a filmmaker, photographer and teacher.

In his moving image and photography work, Klančar reveals alter egos of himself and other queer people. He translates personal experiences into performative settings, placing characters in landscapes as metaphors for the inner stream of emotions.

His commissioned work has involved projects on migration (exhibition documentaries), as well as visualising artist performances and producing photo editorials.

After completing his studies in art history at the University of Ljubljana (2006), Klančar graduated at the KABK BA Photography department (2012).

In the years after his studies, he exhibited at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, GEM The Hague, Showroom MAMA, Photon Ljubljana and other places.

Recently, he has shown work at the Center for Contemporary Art Celje and the Eye Filmmuseum. His films have also been screened at film festivals, such as KasselerDokfest, Post Pxrn Film Festival Warsaw and LGBT Film Festival Ljubljana.

His commissioned work was shown at Framer Framed, Museum Arnhem, Imagine IC, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum, among others.

At BA Photography, Klančar is a tutor for moving image projects. He also gives academy-wide film courses with a strong emphasis on gender and identity, while making the queer toolbox a universal part of the experience.
