Annaleen Louwes lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied photography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where she later became a teacher herself. Beside her commissioned work for diverse cultural institutes, theatre companies, magazines and as a teacher at the Royal Art Academy in The Hague, she works as an autonomous artist. Her work is included in various internationally collections.

Louwes is focusing on the fragile and transient character of the existence of the human being. Her keen interest in the ways in which people survive in different circumstances and the impact that this has on their body and posture, is shown in several photographic series.
