Steef Eman

Theory

Steef Eman is my name. I have a master degree in Art-History from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. My major was Medieval Architecture, and I did minors in Modern Art, Cultural Anthropology and Educational Science.

After graduating I worked for the Stichting Kerkelijk Kunstbezit in Nederland, an organization registering all the objects with (art-)historical significance in Dutch churches. I specifically did fieldwork, compiling inventories of Roman-Catholic and Old-Catholic churches. This gave me hands-on experience in describing and photographing these objects.

At the same time, I was also teaching Dutch Art & Architecture at Central College Abroad in Leiden, a BA programme for students from the USA. From 1998-2015 I was also the Resident Director there, during which time we developed an art summer programme focusing on drawing, graphic design and photography.

Since 2017, I am teaching at the Fashion & Textile Department of the KABK and Academy- Wide Education.

Besides all the above, I am a board member of the Stichting Oud-Katholiek Museum and part of the Board of Trustees of Musuem Catherijneconvent, Utrecht.

My interests are broad, and I am a strong believer in lifelong education. For me reading non-fiction is part of this. I am always curious to learn and enrich my knowledge through the perspectives of students and colleagues and like to see the KABK as a learning community. In addition, my hobbies are bird watching, photographing art, architecture and nature and I like walking.
