Maura Biava

Studio practice

Maura Biava teaches ceramic sculpture at the BA Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. At the moment she is conducting a research for the Academy that focuses on how might an artistic approach and sensibility help overcome the limitations of a 3D clay extrusion printers, and expand the potential for the generation of more complex printed shapes and alternative surfaces.

Biava comes from Italy where she graduated at the Academy of Brera in Milan in 1992. She came to Holland to study at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 1997-1999. As an interdisciplinary artist her work took her to several specialised residencies, most recently she has been in residence at European Ceramic Work Center - Sunday Morning, s’Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, 2008. At the American Academy in Roma, Italy 2010-11. Museum Carlo Zauli, Faenza, Italy, 2013. At the ISCP New York City, U.S.A. 2014. Le Maupas A.I.R. France, 2017.
