Subversive Film

Filmmakers

Subversive Film, formed in 2011, devises interventions in order to cast new light on rare, oftentimes historic works related to Palestine, the wider region and geographies engaged in solidarity making and practices, to engender support for their presentation, and to query archival practices and effects.

Parallel projects being developed (or recently realised) by Subversive Film to foster new possibilities for engaging with the cine-historical anterior include the digital reissuing of previously overlooked films, the curation of rare film exhibition cycles, subtitling of rediscovered foreign language films, multilingual publications and moments of public engagement.

Their work reflects and draws upon these wider research and re-production and re-circulation practices, posting critical questions about the processes whereby archival acts produce their aesthetic-ideological effects.
