Małgorzata Mirga-Tas

Artist

Małgorzata Mirga-Tas is a Polish-Romani visual artist, sculptor, painter, educator and activist. Born in 1978, she lives and works in Czarna Góra, a Romani village at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Her artistic practice developed out of the desire to depict today’s life in her community, merging contemporary references with social models that are centuries old and include the activities of the community. Her work embraces a Baroque sensibility towards colour, decoration and material presence, which relate to the everyday life aesthetic and practices of the Romani community.
