6 december 2023

The winners of the anniversary edition of the Piket Kunstprijzen 2023 have been announced. Katarina Head (Fine Arts, 2022) won in the catagory Painting. Katarina receives a sum of 8,000 euros and a unique work of art, de Hamer, which was designed and made by artist Joep van Lieshout. Congrats Katarina!

Next to Katarina, breaking crew Heavy Hitter won in the catagory Dance and Finn Borath and Boris de Klerk in the catagory Theatre. Piket Jury Prize goes to drama teacher, theater maker and writer Marcel Roijaards. The Piket Art Prizes are awarded every year to promising young, professional artists in the field of painting, dance and theater. In this tenth edition, the other nominees will also receive a cash prize of 2,000 euros for the first time. One of the other nominees is Menno Pasveer (Fine Arts, 2022).

“Her worlds touch those of Hieronymus Bosch, but also the way of thinking of Escher and the esotericism of Mondriaan. The mysticism that Katarina Head evokes with her work invites the viewer to take a closer look at the reality in which we live," the jury says.

This year, the professional jury consists of chairman Jan Zoet (director Amare), Lea van der Vinde (Museum Huygens' Hofwijck and Huygens' Swaensteyn), visual artist Joncquil de Vries, Amos Ben-Tal (dance collective OFFprojects), Erik Kaiel (Arch8), John de Weerd (programmer Zaal 3 and De Parade) and actress and HKU teacher Ellen Goemans.

Katarina Head (Painting winner) was 'in shock' in a positive way. "Winning this prize will really help me in my work," says Katarina. “Katarina's worlds touch those of Hieronymus Bosch, but also the way of thinking of Escher and the esotericism of Mondrian. The mysticism that Katarina Head evokes with her work invites the viewer to take a good look at the reality in which we live," said the jury.
