With a BA in communications and a history in advertising Kim Nuijen (1984, NL) studied Photography at the KABK from 2007-2011, after which she developed a commercial photography practice collaborating with agencies such as TBWA/Neboko and clients including Albert Heijn, Post NL and Technogym.
Later, following the need to explore an artistic practice, she obtained the MA Fine Art (2016-2018) at St.-Joost, ’s Hertogenbosch. There, based on the viewer’s vantage point, Nuijen questioned not only what we see, but also what we perceive to be real. She made photographic works & moving images that were presented as sculptural installations. Nuijen exhibited a.o. at Upstream Gallery, Amsterdam (NL), Beers Gallery, London (UK) and Benaki Museum / Pireos 138, Athens (GR).
As Nuijen encountered the ‘managing-side’ of her art practice, a desire arose to focus solely on this business side. In 2021, she joined forces with artist Dirk Hardy, who creates meticulously constructed and socially engaged tableaux that shine light on human existence. While Hardy dives into his studio to create, Nuijen enjoys making sure the work is seen and supported.
Since their collaboration, Hardy’s project Vivarium has been a.o. exhibited at Noorderlicht International Photo Festival (NL), Unseen Amsterdam (NL), Nederlands Fotomuseum (NL), Flowers Gallery (UK), Leica Gallery (DE) and Aesthetica Art Prize (UK). In addition, Vivarium became part of several (private) collections, including the collection of Museum LAM, Lisse (NL) and the AkzoNobel Art Collection (NL).
Nuijen has been teaching at KABK since 2013.
