Jaya Pelupessy (b. 1989) inves5gates the meaning of the image in photographs, installations and 16mm film. Through an analysis of technical reproduction processes, he questions the relationship between copy, original and final product in relation to process. He is interested in the increasing role of photography in our daily lives. We perceive the world more and more through the lens of the camera: we share moments and experiences through reproductions. It is in this way that we direct our own reality. In a combination of found material and his own, he uses the individual elements of these reproduction processes in an alternative way for the construction of his images. Loops" are oLen created in his work, in which reproductions are reproduced again. In this way the work makes us reflect on how images are made and what this means for our perception of the world around us.
His work is included in the collections of leading institutions such as FOAM Amsterdam, Centraal Museum Utrecht, Nederlands Fotomuseum, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, the Steenbergen Collection, the Amsterdam UMC Collection, the Eneco Collection, the HKU Collection and various private collections.
Pelupessy has exhibited his work at renowned institutions such as Centraal Museum Utrecht, Nederlands Fotomuseum RoZerdam, FOAM Amsterdam, Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Frankfurt, Red Hook Labs New York, Mai Manó House Budapest, C/O Berlin, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam and Paris Photo.
