Corine Datema

Media & Materials tutor

Media & Materials tutor at the BA department of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design at the KABK, the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

In her teaching and design practice, one question is central: design is about telling a story — which story do you want to tell, and what is its intrinsic source? Design begins with the body; through your senses, you perceive the world. This forms the first entry point to communicate with your environment (sensory thinking) — with yourself, with humans, and non-humans — and to translate this into meaningful spatial and visual designs. It is not only about what you make, but especially how you make it together; that is what resonates in the final work.

To keep her vision sharp, she begins each day with a meditative walk and qi-gong exercises, approaching the day consciously and with an open mind.
