The committee consisting of three former students (Jonathan Hielkema, Zsofia Kollar, and Auke Lansink), a teacher (Brecht Hoffmann), and an external member (Derk Dumbar) says: The PAMS Project captivates with vibrant colors and whimsical imagery, yet examines societal themes. Interpreting artworks, das james introduces insights, challenging their relevance today. His work engages public spaces, encouraging viewers to reconsider their relationships with landmarks and highlighting the significance of public art. His playful imagery and lens spark conversations about urban space, engaging the community and securing das james as the Paul Schuitema Award winner.

Jan Roëde award

The two Jan Roëde Awards comprises of scholarships of €3000 and €1500. This prizes were awarded to:

The jury says: Her research into the craft of textile production penetrates the complexity of textile fabrics, but also focuses on the role women have played for centuries in designing and manufacturing these fabrics. Inspired by her grandmothers in Greece, who were the first to teach her the art of needlework, she tries to unravel the complex relationship between textile making and the significance women have had for it throughout history. Narolian Mercelina (Bachelor Fine Arts, 2024) - Finding the focus in the distraction.

The jury says: A painting like 'Unboxing' visualises with bright colours and swirling lines an infectious explosion of enthusiasm, the delight experienced at the moment beautiful new sneakers are taken out of their box. The other paintings in the presentation also depict in refreshingly original ways that sneakers are part of a culture and can be so much more to a wearer than footwear. Read the jury report.

The jury says: Cecilie Fang Jensen's work demonstrates thorough research. The artwork connects existing ecosystems with invisible (eco)systems, offering the viewer a different perspective. Peter Wertmann (Bachelor Textile & Fashion, 2024) - Lost Product of Society

The jury says: Peter Wertman has shown that he has conducted extremely thorough material research in the application of non-obvious materials. He knows how to convert knowledge and dreams into an autonomous image using his own handwriting. His enormous drive and dedication moved the committee. Zoë Kustner (Bachelor Interactive / Media / Design)

The jury says: Zoe Kustner receives a stipend because she has delivered technically excellent work with a clear storyline that manages to fascinate and surprise. Her work shows great discipline. The committee looks forward to her development with confidence.

Jacob van Klinken (Master Artistic Research, 2024) - 17 Liter, urine converter, U-BOAT, Big Freddy Dispenser Unit, 12/1 inch valve, 2 Bio-Component

Jacob van Klinken receives the prize of "courage and integrity" because he uses great knowledge of materials, passion and patience to create three-dimensional images in which humor and drive go together, while putting the viewer on the wrong track. iii Encouragement Opportunity 2024

The iii Encouragement Opportunity 2024 was awarded to Tingyi Jiang (ArtScience, 2024).

The jury report reads that her work 'Make It Fit', presented at the KABK Graduation Show 2024, stood out by ‘bringing together political urgencies, institutional critique and identity politics in a powerful and personal way’.

As part of the prize, Tingyi Jiang is invited for a 4 week residency at iii workspace, including a fee of €2250 and production budget of €1100.

The jury says: “The jury was deeply impressed by Tingyi Jiang’s performance ‘Make It Fit’ in which she combines choreography, stage design and pop-propaganda. In this performance she demonstrates her ability of treating a social subject with humour – and does not shy away from playful self-criticism and parody. The jury was charmed by her excellent use of text, timing and teamwork. In her work, Jiang brings together political urgencies, institutional critique and identity politics in a powerful and personal way. We see great potential in Tingyi Jiang and are curious about her artistic development and her research into the edges of performance.”

The Keep an Eye scholarship comprises €10.000 which was awarded to Wassim el Hodayebi (Textile & Fashion, 2024). Wassim won the scholarship with the work 'Waza is a voice inside my head'.
