Admission requirements

At the Master Industrial Design, we believe that great design thinking and innovation thrives at the intersection of diverse perspectives. It is with this in mind that we welcome applicants from various backgrounds and disciplines. See the application as an opportunity for you to showcase your unique engagement with the design field through your designs, research, motivations, and experience.

General Requirements

  • You must have obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • You must be proficient in both spoken and written English.
    Non-EU/EEA candidates are required to provide proof of English Language proficiency.
    EU/EEA candidates' English language level will be assessed during their interview.

Specific Requirements

As part of the admission and selection procedure for the Master Industrial Design, you are asked to provide us with the following: portfolio, letter of motivation, and a curriculum vitae. After selection based on these elements, you will be invited for an interview with the admission committee.

Your portfolio plays a crucial role in your application. See the portfolio as an opportunity to showcase your process, insights and personal vision in the field of design. Take the time to carefully select and curate your designs, material experiments, prototypes, projects, research, sketches, and photographs. But also, any other material that will give the admissions committee a better glimpse of who you are as a designer.

PDF in 10-20 pages, max 50 MB (larger files are not accepted)

Your motivation letter should provide the committee with an insight into why the Master Industrial Design is a good fit for your professional ambitions. Tell the story of what drives your design, what you want to explore or deepen further during your master studies and how you wish to grow as a designer.

PFD, in max 1 A4 page

In addition to the information about your previous studies, your resume should include a list of the most crucial milestones in your professional journey. Include exhibitions, events, publications, grants, prizes or nominations you may have received but also, other interests, skills and experience you may have.

PDF, in max A4, 2 pages

After a selection based on the above, you will be invited to an online interview with members of the admission committee at the Royal Academy of Art the Hague. This interview allows for a more in-depth exchange on your aims as a designer and how the Master Industrial Design program may be a good fit for your ambitions.

Application/portfolio deadlines: In order to apply, you must first register in Studielink (Dutch national database for admission to higher education) and then gain access to our online application system OSIRIS where you will be asked to submit your portfolio and other supporting documents.

Admission days/interviews: After the deadline the selection committee reviews your portfolio and other documents and decides whether you will be invited for an admission interview. If the committee decides positively, you will receive an e-mail with more information on this phase of the process.

* Applications received after 2 March may be considered only if places remain. Applying after 2 March therefore does not guarantee that your application will be processed.
