Are you are thinking of applying for an art or design programme at the KABK? An important part of the application process is your portfolio. The portfolio requirements for admission differ per department and study level. We advise you to always check the admission requirements of the course you wish to apply for before you begin your application.
Show your personality with your portfolio
There is not one formula or way to create a portfolio, but these tips can be used as inspiration or perhaps a starting point. Scroll down for info about the portfolio format.
Start with the basics: your name, maybe a short bio, and your contact information. Then focus on selecting projects and experiments that you think will best represent who you are as an artist. Organise them. Do you want to add sound, video or another type of digital content to your portfolio? Create an interactive presentation, allowing you to add URLs or other links to your portfolio.
Keep track of the steps you take while creating a project. This is called the 'process.' Showing your process gives us an idea of how you think and how you make your work.
You can also show try-outs, sketches, unfinished work, inspiration sources and experiments. These are just as valuable as finished work.
Explain yourself. Make sure the committee understand your thinking without you needing to be there and tell them. The context of your work is important.
Show your portfolio to someone that hasn’t seen it yet and ask them for feedback.
The format of your portfolio
Your portfolio that you use to apply for a study programme at KABK needs to be in PDF format. This can be landscape format, portrait format, can be big, can be small, it depends on how you want to express yourself. Just make sure it is informative for someone who knows nothing about your practice.
Your portfolio needs to be uploaded in a PDF format in Osiris. There is a maximum file size and maximum number of pages. This differs per study programme. You can find the latest admission requirements on the 'How to apply' page under each study programme on our website.
