Politics and Aesthetics of Taste in Photography

Dr. Ali Shobeiri has been Assistant Professor of Photography at Leiden University since 2018, teaching courses such as: Topical Debates on Photography in Historical Perspective; Debates on Documentary Strategies; and Photography & Film: From Snapshot to Photo-Film.

At the MA Photography & Society he instructs the course called Politics and Aesthetics of Taste in Photography, merging the theories of the ugly with different practices of the photographic discourse.

In his current academic research, he aspires to propose the notion of “placial aesthetics” through the triangulation of the fields of continental philosophy, photography theories, and human geography.
