Thesis Tutor

Dirk Vis is theory tutor and thesis supervisor at the Bachelor Graphic Design programme of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK).

Dirk Vis (1981, NL) writes poetry, (speculative) fiction and essays. Vis studied at the Rietveld Academy (Writing) and the Sandberg Institute (Design), Amsterdam.

His books have been published in Dutch and English: the novel Paren of de kunst van de slaapkamer (Atlas Contact, 2022), the novella Het reality-essay (De Gids, 2017), and the manual for artistic research Research for People Who (Think They) Would Rather Create (Onomatopee, 2021). His work has been translated to German and Korean. Vis has written film scripts and directed several video works; he is contributing editor of Dutch literary magazine De Gids; and has (guest-)taught at many (inter-)national art universities.

Vis spends his time between London and The Netherlands. In 2024-2025 Vis was the resident writer at The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. At the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Vis lectures and teaches the writing of the research document.
