Study profile
At our Textile and Fashion Design department, two creative worlds come together under one roof. While each discipline has its own track and identity, they are interconnected, offering a collaborative learning experience. This is a space where you don’t just learn; you create, experiment, share, and grow alongside others.
We arere fully aware of the urgent issues facing our industry and we can no longer keep up appearances. That’s why our programme is built around educating a new generation of critical designers, people who are not only aware of the problems but eager to be part of the solution. We do not avoid urgent issues such as sustainability, pollution and transition.
Instead of focusing on limitations, we offer design challenges as opportunities for exploration. These become playgrounds for innovation, inspiring you to become a critical maker, thinker, activist, or all of the above, driven by values like ecological sustainability, social justice, and human well-being.
You will develop your own design perspective through a balance of hands-on practice and theoretical depth. From in-depth conceptual research to hands-on experimentation, you will learn to connect ideas with materials, thinking both critically and creatively. By engaging with the full scope of the industry, and the human behaviors tied to it, you’ll be encouraged to question the status quo and explore bold, alternative futures.
This journey is as much about understanding yourself as it is about understanding the world. You and your creativity become tools for impact.

The name Pieter ‘t Hoen may not mean much to most, as Pieter works under the name Piet Paris. And Paris is pronounced in French, of course. Piet Paris is one of the most important international fashion illustrators of our time. Well-known fashion magazines like W, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue Japan and Vanity have him to his credit. His second love is teaching, since seven years at the Textile and Fashion Department of the KABK. Read the interview.
Hella Jongerius was invited to provide a Masterclass to students of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), in November 2019.
The masterclass was powered by Keep an Eye Foundation.
Textile and Fashion alums Ireneo Ciammella, Rianne Zijderveld and Lotte Mostert share their experience and give tips to current students at the Textile and Fashion department.
