Ferdinand Waas

Artist

Ferdinand Waas (b. 1998, Ingolstadt, Germany) is an artist and facilitator based between The Hague and Berlin. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (Fine Arts), Athens School of Fine Arts, the University of Vienna (social and cultural anthropology) and TU Vienna (theory of architecture), and has been a tutor in the Fine Arts department at KABK since 2025.

Through working via conversational methods with subcultures, communities and his personal periphery, Ferdinand tries to formulate works in the vocabulary of the subject and context. His work is based on encounters, conversations, recordings, acts of recalling and documentation through different ways of note-taking.

By retracing and storytelling of the often invisible and mostly unseen, and centring what is considered niche, he decodes as well as challenges norms and further questions set standards. Recent solo exhibition include ‘Eurotrip Energy’, Museum Folkwang, Essen; ‘nada más que la verdad’, Segismundo, Guatemala City; ‘Pirate Bay and Chill’, DDD Kunst House, Yerevan; and ‘Show Match’ , K4 galleri, Oslo. Recent group exhibitions include ‘5 km from you’, TRIBECA, New York; ‘Full Pivot’ , the___servers, Helsinki; ‘Young Fresh Different’, Zilberman Gallery, Berlin; and ‘tense tides’, Nieuw Dakota, Amsterdam.
