Exhibition with results of the IST elective course Art and Food

On behalf of the participants in the IST elective course Art and Food, the Lectorate Art Theory & Practice cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition, on Thursday 6 December from 18:00 in gallery space PA.007 of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) The Hague, presenting the outcomes of this course.

The course Art and food: political dimensions and artistic possibilities of food, part of the Art Research Programme of the Lectorate Art Theory & Practice, encourages students to rethink the practical and conceptual role of food in the political and artistic realm. The aim is to open up new perspectives on taste and smell, and to inspire students to explore aspects of cooking, eating and feeding in their artistic practice.

The course was led by PhDArts doctoral candidate Thalia Hoffman during the fall semester. In the framework of the course, students studied other artistic works (including the work by Thalia Hoffman), in which the artist has reflected on the role of food and/or used food as a medium.

About the Art Research Programme

The lectorate Art Theory & Practice organises the Art Research Programme for motivated and talented Bachelor students. The Art Research Programme offers courses in art and research, to which students can apply by submitting a letter of motivation. Generally, the courses are taught by PhDArts doctoral candidates and sometimes by guest teachers. Also, some courses organised by the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA) of Leiden University are open to Bachelor students of the Royal Academy of Art through the Art Research Programme.

While the courses vary widely in thematic focus, they all share an emphasis on research in relation to art practice. All courses in the Art Research Programme are interdisciplinary and not connected to one specific department of the academy. In each course, students from different departments work together, and in some cases they collaborate with students from the Royal Conservatoire and Leiden University. The courses can be taken within the framework of the Individual Study Track (IST), in consultation with the IST coach.
