Boekbinding

The Printmaking and Typesetting Workshops at the KABK facilitate and support students in learning basic binding techniques. The Bookbinding workshop is open daily and students can work individually with the help of the instructions provided.

The workshop is equipped with two manual creasers, several Lumbeck presses, small-and big bookbinder presses, a saddle stapler, a fastback binder, a cutting machine (not suitable for cutting cardboard), two guillotines (suitable for cutting cardboard), bookbinding glue, bone folders, and brushes.

What you can do at the Bookbinding Workshop

You can learn different techniques of bookbinding such as Pamphlet stitch, Japanese binding, Adhesive binding, Section sewn binding (French link stitch), Section sewn binding (Koptic stitch), Accordion book (leporello in Dutch), as well as get acquainted with examining paper types and covers and find out useful cutting and printing tips necessary to follow prior to binding your book-project.
