Dr Bea Blokhuis

Environmental activist

Bea Blokhuis is a Dutch classics scholar within the University of Groningen, but is also an environmental activist, engaging in a critical discourse with those involved in gas fracking in the area of northern Holland, where she lives.

Through both playful actions and critical questions at scientific or informative meetings, she draws attention to the psychic damage caused by gas extraction in Groningen. One of these actions involves submitting declarations to the NAM management of a life raft in connection with the earthquake susceptibility of dikes, sea lock and dyke sections in Delfzijl, her home town.

Bea is also a member of SI club De Eemsmond, part of the worldwide volunteer organization and NGO Soroptimist International, committed to improving the position of women and children worldwide.
