The Master Artistic Research processes applications on a rolling basis from October to May, until all positions in the cohorts are filled. We work with two deadlines*, which apply to both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA candidates:

Priority deadline: 1 March
Final deadline: 1 May

*The application deadline entails registration via Studielink (step 1) and submission of required documents incl. portfolio (step 2).

Please note that, due to the scope of the current Coronavirus, alternative channels for the application interviews are offered for prospective students. It is possible that application interviews will run via Skype or FaceTime. You will be informed by Student Administration or the department.

Studielink is the common registration and enrolment application system for all non-private institutions of higher education in the Netherlands.

  • Create a Studielink account: provide personal details (as stated in your passport or ID card) and previous educational information (studies, diplomas and exam results).

Official residents of the Netherlands have to use their DigiD to login to Studielink.
International students create an account with their own username and password.
  • Once your account is created you can ‘add a new enrolment’ by indicating the study programme of your choice under the ‘University of Applied Sciences – Royal Academy/Royal Conservatoire The Hague’. Follow carefully the steps and at the end confirm your application.

Detailed instructions are provided on the website of Studielink to assist you with the procedure.
Please note! Once you've submitted your application in Studielink, you will receive an automatic reply in your mailbox with the subject "Upload the required documents". Check your spam box if you have not received it within 3 minutes.

Start your application

After your enrolment via Studielink is confirmed, you will receive an e-mail from the Student Administration of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. In this e-mail, you’ll find your personal login info, which will grant you access to the Academy’s own online application system Osiris, where you can upload your portfolio and other required documents:

  • portfolio in PDF format (max 50MB)
  • artistic research proposal (PDF, max 400 words)
  • resume (curriculum vitae)

Find detailed information about the requested material under the Specific requirements section on the Admission requirements page.

Once your completed application has been received by the department, it will join others and be assessed by the applications committee, made up of members of the MAR teaching team. They will jointly decide if your application can go forward to this next step, which is to invite you for interview. If yes, you will be given the option of being personally present in The Hague, or interviewed online. If the committee decides your application cannot go to this next step, you will be informed of this by email.

After the admission interview you will be informed whether or not you are admitted to our programme. All students who are offered a spot into our programme will need to upload some supporting documents to complete their enrolment. These documents include:

  • Copy of your passport* (a scanned version of pages with photo and personal information)
  • Copy of your high school and/or bachelor diploma (if applicable)
  • A profile picture (to print on your student card)
  • Proof of English proficiency (for non-EEA students only)

*if you have a double nationality, please add a copy of your second passport as well

Your official enrolment at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) is completed upon payment of the tuition fees. Related information will be sent to you by our student administration office via e-mail.

Once you are officially registered as a student at the KABK, you will receive your student card and a proof of enrolment.

International students can find practical information on what to arrange before and during their stay in The Netherlands.
