Rachel Bacon is a visual artist and drawing tutor in the Fine Arts department of the KABK. She has been Visiting artist - professional practice at the Master Artistic Research programme and participant in the KABK Research Group of 2018.
Rachel Bacon, originally from New York City, is currently based in The Hague. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in printmaking and painting, and recently completed a Master's degree in Drawing from the University of the Arts London. She was a member of the PRO grant committee at Stroom Den Haag from 2009-2014, and has been teaching in the Fine Arts department of the KABK since 2008.
Her work has been included in exhibitions nationally and internationally such as the Jerwood Drawing Prize in London (2016), MALLONY Arts festival in Lithuania (2016) and Amsterdam Drawing Fair (2015). She has realized a number of public art commissions in the Netherlands and in New York City, among others for the Palace of Justice in The Hague (2013) and the Trust for Public Land in Manhattan (2009).
Rachel has often been an artist-in-residence, among other places at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA (2018); as part of the Arts and the Environment Residency at Banff Centre for the Arts (2017) and with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in New York City (2010). Her recent curatorial project, Unfolding Landscape, took place in 2018 at De Cacaofabriek in Helmond, NL.
