Luis Maly (b. 1991, Wiltz) is an artist and educator based in The Hague. He graduated from the Fine Arts department of KABK in 2017. His artistic practice combines research with sculpture, installation, and, more recently, video, examining the environmental, social, and geopolitical complexities of the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
Through field research in Greece, particularly in regions affected by large-scale wind energy development, he investigates the tensions between ecological ambitions, extractive practices and the experiences of local communities. Ecofeminist thinking forms an important lens within this research.
Luis works primarily with metal, casting and large-scale architectural installations, often combining these with wood, plastics, lighting systems and moving-image work. Material experimentation and making are central to his practice, including the reuse of scrap metals and the production of bronze and aluminum alloys from recycled material.
Alongside his artistic practice, Luis has been part of KABK’s educational and technical environment as Coordinating Instructor of the Metal Workshop. Since 2023, he has also taught within Academy-wide Education, bringing together his experience as an artist, maker, and technical educator. His broader teaching experience includes workshops, technical education and interdisciplinary projects in the Netherlands and internationally.
