Marleine van der Werf

Documentary Film

Marleine van der Werf is an award winning documentary filmmaker, visual artist and artistic researcher. Rooted in a documentary practice, she develops films, immersive installations and multi-sensory experiences that explore embodiment, perception and consciousness.

Working in close collaboration with people with lived experience, as well as neuroscientists, philosophers and technologists, her practice investigates how subjective realities are shaped and communicated. Through interdisciplinary artistic research, she explores embodiment, disembodiment and the shifting relationship between biological and technological forms of existence.

Her research is presented through films, installations, publications and public discourse. The works have been presented internationally at film festivals, museums and media art platforms, broadcast on national and international television, and supported by organisations including the Sundance Institute. Alongside her artistic and research practice, she teaches and supervises projects in the fields of film, installation and immersive media.
