Jonas Althaus

Interim Co-Head Master Industrial Design

Jonas Althaus is a designer and educator based in Rotterdam. His work focuses on the social implications of technology and the revaluation of artisanal practices in the context of responsible material cultures.

He is Interim Co-Head of the Industrial Design Master’s program at KABK, where he teaches courses that investigate industries through Critical Design methodologies. His educational activities extend to guest lectures at the Design Academy Eindhoven (NL), the University of Applied Arts Vienna (AT) and Bauhaus University Weimar (DE).

In 2018 Jonas co-founded the design and research studio Cream on Chrome, together with designer Martina Huynh. Their award-winning multimedia installations engage broad audiences in socio-political questions.

In 2024 they published Washi Futurism, a hybrid publication (book, AR app and exhibition) developed through five years of collaboration with Japanese paper artisans. The project examines how the lens of traditional craft practices can inform more regenerative futures, both conceptually and materially.
