New heads of the Fine Arts Department

28 september 2022

Antoinette Vonder Mühll and Carl Johan Högberg have been appointed Heads of the department Fine Arts with effect from October 1, 2022. Antoinette and Carl will take over from our current ad-interim head of department and director Ranti Tjan.

Both have been working in the Fine Arts department in tutoring and coordination roles, and the KABK is delighted to work with them on building an exciting and sustained future for our staff and students.

Antoinette has a BA in Design from the University of Art and Design in Geneva and a MA in Museology from the Reinwardt Academie in Amsterdam. She has been working in the arts and design since more than 20 years and has been in many different positions from museum exhibition assistant, gallery manager, curating a public space project, artist’s studio director to teaching and coordinating. Before joining KABK, Antoinette has worked as coordinator at the Sandberg Institute. She has also been temporary Head of the Jewellery / Linking Bodies Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.

Carl studied Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. After obtaining a BA in Fine Arts, he was a participant at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, and has since been a guest artist at IASPIS in Stockholm, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Cité des Arts in Paris and at Grazer Kunstverein in Graz. Carl Johan teaches critical theory and writing at Bachelor Fine Arts and leads a research group in the academy-wide program Research & Discourse at the KABK.

In the coming months they will critically examine Fine Arts as a workplace and move on in the 21st century and beyond. Vonder Mühll and Högberg are deeply ankered into the community of artists and makers and the KABK board trust them to skillfully lead the department.
