Ola Lanko

Visiting tutor

Ola Lanko studied sociology at National University in Kyiv, photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In the past 10 years, Lanko has built a continuous ever-changing practice with a strong focus on building complex multifaceted frameworks that include a transdisciplinary approach manifested in a large diversity of artistic strategies.

A wide spectrum of her practice, among other facets, includes photography, immersive multi-sensorial installations, conversational space design and music. She combines intuitive and rational wisdom into layered structures that invite one to wander in search of meaning through personal experience and shared spaces.

Currently, her work is powered by meta-rationality, relating practices, non-conformist actions, experiential stretches and speculative frameworks. She addresses rising inequality and fear, polarisation and shattering of common realities, the crisis of meaning and trust, and subconscious drives and desires. Besides her artistic endeavours, Ola has an active teaching practice distinct in her unconventional and experimental approach.
