Ingrid Grünwald (NL) is a Senior Coordinator for the Graphic Design BA program at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, where she enhances the curriculum by added value in the form of intercultural communication sessions to create an inclusive international learning environment. Ingrid's academic background includes a degree in English Language and Literature from the Free University in Amsterdam, where she developed a strong interest in minorities, language, and their intersections. This passion has been a constant thread throughout her career, influencing her work in art education and her focus on supporting students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Grünwald’s career in education began with a faculty secretary position at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, specifically within the BA Fine Arts in Education program, and later as a tutor for Communication & Organisation at Het Mediacollege Amsterdam. She has spent the past 8 years helping international students to bridge language barriers and improve their intercultural communication skills, offering guidance during their first year of study in the English language.

Since 2022, Grünwald, alongside Maarten Cornel, has been co-organizing The Big Dialogue project at KABK. This initiative served as a platform for exploring important social issues and their relevance to art education. The project, which tackles various societal challenges through dialogue, has been expanded through the upcoming Sacred Project, set. This new phase includes collaborative efforts with art academies in Marseille and Palermo. In addition to her work on The Big Dialogue, Ingrid and Maarten were both part of the Artistic Research Group Politics of Knowledge: The Dialogue as a Research Method from 2022 to 2024. Ingrid’s research, focusing on the role of language within art education, culminated in Beyond Language, research that examines the use of English as a bridging language in academic settings (more information available here).

She is also actively involved in KABK’s complaint committee, further demonstrating her commitment to realize an inclusive, respectful, and effective academic environment for all students. Through her extensive experience and ongoing research, Ingrid continues to challenge and reshape the ways in which art education can engage with global issues and diverse voices.
