Study abroad

The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) strives after an international learning environment for its students. This is accomplished by means of creating an international atmosphere within the academy and by stimulating international learning trajectories in the form of exchange programmes and internships abroad.

You can always study abroad at one of our Erasmus or Non-Erasmus partners. If the institution you wish to apply to for an exchange period is in Europe, you may apply for the Erasmus+ grant. If the institution is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) you may apply for the Holland Scholarship.

Study abroad with a grant/scholarship

The Erasmus+ grant is meant for KABK students who wish to apply for an exchange period at one of our Erasmus partner institutions.

Read carefully the Erasmus Student Charter with information on regulations before, during and after your mobility period.

Non-EU/EEA students have to let the international office and student administration know that they are going abroad at least five weeks in advance because of IND and visa rules. All Erasmus forms have to be completed, signed and handed in by then.

EU/EEA students have to hand in the completed and signed Erasmus forms at least three weeks before the start of the exchange.

Selection criteria

  • The International Office of the KABK selects students who wish to apply for the Erasmus+ grant, based on their motivation letter and grades. Head(s) of the departments can provide advice on the decision.
  • Applications for grants by students who go on exchange (study or internship) to their home country are assessed with a low priority. Grants will be awarded if there is remaining budget available.

Deadlines for Erasmus+ grant applications

  • 1 February for an exchange period abroad during the 1st Semester of the academic year
  • 10 September for an exchange period abroad during the 2nd Semester of the academic year
