City Displacement

A tour around The Hague with a bus filled with exhibitions and lectures in chosen areas throughout the city highlighting impacts of gentrification.

'City Displacement' is one of the five public programmes presented within the 'Mentality-No Style’ project in the context of the 100 Years of the De Stijl/Mondrian year event. A project organised by students of the Royal Academy of Art together with the municipality of The Hague.

Transformation of urban areas in The Hague are increasingly associated with gentrification. This means the process whereby a neighbourhood or district is upgraded in social, cultural and economic terms by attracting captital-rich new residents, thereby pushing out the lower classes.

Join the special organised bus tour along locations in The Hague showing the different effects of the process of gentrification. Onboard there will be talks by Bart Stuart and Kwinten Keesmaat. They will share their field of work and knowledge on this topic. Together we will enjoy a coffee and cake at one of the stops and end this tour with a beverage on the rooftop of the Binckhorst.

The City Displacement Tour will take place on November 4th. The bus leaves in the morning and in the afternoon in front of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

  • The morning tour will leave at 10:00 AM and ends at 12:45 PM.
  • The afternoon tour will start at 1:00 PM and ends at 3:45 PM.

Route:
Royal Academy of Art – Scheveningen – Weimarstraat – Piet Heinstraat – Haagse Markt – Binckhorst – Royal Academy of Art.

We will stop at Scheveningen where we will get out of the bus to see one of the areas. In Piet Heinstraat we will grab a coffee and cake and our final stop will be at the Binckhorst where we will have a final drink together on the rooftop bar.
