Master Industrial Design presents lecture 'Re-imagining industrial habitation'

On Friday 5 September, the Master Industrial Design is hosting Shivant Jhagroe, author of the book Voorbij Duurzaamheid (Past Sustainability), who will give a lecture and workshop on ‘re-imagining industrial habitation’.

Sustainable innovations have mushroomed and are all around us: electric cars, organic bananas and green growth. However, many sustainability narratives and projects are designed by and for white privileged groups, and seem to reproduce neoliberalism and colonial structures of power. How is ‘going green’ related to industrial capitalism and whiteness? In what way do sustainability projects with good intentions (e.g. on renewable energy, ecotourism) reproduce class inequalities and extractionism? But also, what are pathways to undo the colonial traces in sustainability discourse and design? How can we reimagine the industrial habitation of Earth, and cultivate other ways of knowing and living?
