Carl-Johan Högberg

Co-Head of BA Fine Arts & Critical Practice

Carl-Johan teaches critical theory and writing and together with Antoinette Vonder Mühll leads the BA Fine Arts programme since 1 October 2022.

Carl-Johan Högberg (1979, SE) is an artist and translator based in Amsterdam. His work is, in large part, about the ethics of interpretation and the medium of mediation. He asks if it is possible to speak with another, or on behalf of another, through a kinship felt across the great storm of history.

After obtaining a BA in Fine Arts from the Gerrit Reitveld Academie he was a participant at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, and has since been a guest artist at IASPIS in Stockholm, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Cité des Arts in Paris and at Grazer Kunstverein in Graz. In 2010 he was awarded the Dutch Royal Award for Modern Painting, and has exhibited widely in mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
