Sonic Sources: A Radio Show by KABK Deep Futures Research Group 2023-24

On Friday October 27 2023, the six members of the Deep Futures Research Group and Design Lector, Alice Twemlow, made a live radio show with Mushroom Radio about how sonic sources inspire, inform or challenge their research projects.

Each researcher introduced a selection of their sonic research references — excerpts of music, field recordings, interviews, birdsong, electromagnetic vibrations, and more — and discussed what they listen for and why.

Featured researchers:

Alice Twemlow, Design Lector, on deep future sounds from Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Noa-Marthe Prins, tutor, BA Graphic Design, on the sonic evidence of gas pipelines
Boudewijn Buitenhek, instructor 3D Printing Lab, on the sonification of energy use
Cocky Eek, tutor, ArtScience, on rotational sounds
Marlot Meyer, tutor, BA Interactive Media Design, on sensors and sound waves
belit sağ, tutor, MA Non Linear Narrative, on the non-verbal noise of oral history
Georgie Brinkman, coordinator, MA Artistic Research, on the songs of extinct birds
