Everyone is warmly invited to attend the fourth and final KABK Research Club of this academic year. The Research Club sessions this year are dedicated to listening as a research method. All session are devoted to sharing research practices that gather around the uses, methods and meanings of listening.

We are happy to share that Femke Dekker, who you might also know as @loma_doom , will be our special guest for this session! Puncuated by sonic clips, Femke will introduce us to her practice and the listening methodologies and tools that shape her research. The gathering will take place in the KABK garden and as it is the final one before the summer break we will close it off with music, sound, noise and drinks.

With her multifaceted practice as a sound practitioner and educator, Femke Dekker has spent more than a decade exploring sound as an agent for making. Known under her artist moniker Loma Doom, her signature style revolves around electronic experimentalism, both for the mind and movement, and seeks to create a space where intuition and understanding can meet. Actively incorporating styles predating the computer era, she draws from her fondness for freak folk, psychedelic and hardcore punk. This openness led Dekker toward a group of respected deejays in the leftfield underground, and playing at influential spots such as Salon Des Amateurs, Meakusma and Dekmantel, amongst others. Using radio and archives as her main media, her current focus is on various notions of listening and how listening is actually a call to action.

She holds radio residencies at Stranded FM (show: Daydream Nation), Radio Tempo Nรฃo Pรกra (Helter Skelter) and Echobox (Left of the Dial) and at Mutant Radio in Tbilisi, Georgia.

When not behind the decks, Dekker is a contemporary arts educator, teaching as a (guest) tutor at Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam, Design Academy Eindhoven and KABK, and is an artistic research fellow for the Amsterdam based Visual Methodologies Collective.

The KABK Research Club is an informal forum for tutors, heads, staff, workshop supervisors, PhD candidates and students. Research can take the form of scholarly investigation into art or design as subject matter, or it can be practice-led. Club meetings are organized several times a year and convened by the Design Lector, Dr Alice Twemlow.
