"We see this graduation campaign as a chance to give back what we gained as students to the current KABK graduates. We combined our skill sets in a harmonious way while also clearly showing that we have different educational backgrounds.

Our campaign triggers an explosion, a curiosity, attention to something precious and a wish to explore. Reflecting upon our own experiences while studying at the KABK was our main fuel. The campaign bridges both the wild, experimental, and subtle, reflective modes of studying. The desire of students to leave an imprint led us to the idea of fossils and in particular the ammonite, a shell that stands for care, introspection and the safe space of KABK.

We praise an interdisciplinary approach to gaining knowledge and developing an artistic practice. We borrow our motto from Iggy Pop: “Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back”.

Therefore the campaign is divided in two parts; one standing for the experimental dimension of the studies and the other for the introspective aspect. We collected books, gathering images from different sources and showing the research-based dimension of KABK, in combination with creating our own footage. You can see star constellations, the exploration of a cave, the skyline of a city, a particular fossil called an ammonite and a student making a back bend figure.

We photographed the fossil with a particular backlight, giving this timeless yellow and blue glow. By mixing archival and original visuals from scientific, fictitious and primary sources, our campaign recalls the cycles of time. It symbolizes the rite of passage, where the current generation invites another to take its place.

Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back: studying at the academy has been a maximal experience; we have been exploring many practices, sometimes at the risk of feeling lost - the figure of the backbend is a difficult one, it shows also a state of fragility, of balance. Though it was worth it, as graduates and KABK students we were proud to leave a trace in this school, an imprint."
