Vacancy: Psychological counsellor for students

The University of the Arts The Hague is developing rapidly, and is seeking one full time or two part time members of staff as a Psychological counsellor for students (0.5 - 1 FTE)

The better a student feels, the better they will perform in their studies. If a student is experiencing difficulties, it is important that they receive timely and professional help tailored to their needs. We are therefore are expanding our team of student counsellors to include a psychological counsellor for students. This is a new position. Our new psychological counsellor for students will work both at the Royal Conservatoire and at the Royal Academy of Art.

What will you be doing?

Your prime activity will be to support and advise students who are experiencing mental-emotional or psychological problems that are impacting – or threatening to impact - their study progress. You will conduct an intake discussion with the student to estimate the seriousness of the issue. Together with the student, you will look for the most appropriate support: advice, psycho-education, a short series of individual discussions, group training or a referral.

You will work closely with the student counsellors and confidential counsellors. Together with colleagues, you will develop low-threshold activities and initiatives, both preventive and curative, that fit well with our students’ interests and experiences. You will advise the management and student mentors and coaches on consequences and solution options for students experiencing psychological problems and possible study delays.

You will follow and analyse developments in the field of mental health care and translate these into application-oriented solutions, and will give solicited and unsolicited policy advice. Finally, you will build and maintain your networks, both internal and external, for the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Your profile

  • You have an academic university degree in clinical or health psychology;
  • You have completed a Doctor of Psychology training and/or other post-university training as a therapist;
  • You are registered as a professional psychologist in the Dutch BIG register;
  • You are a member of a (specialist) professional organisation such as NIP or VGCT;
  • Additional registrations and training, for example as a BIG health psychologist or VGCT behavioural psychologist, are an advantage;
  • You have a good understanding of psychodiagnostics, and experience in providing individual counselling and training;
  • Experience with and treatment of study and student problems, in particular with regard to adolescents, is an advantage;
  • You have demonstrable knowledge of and experience with working with international students;
  • You are culturally aware;
  • You have an excellent command of English, both written and spoken.

In terms of your personality, you have integrity, and are empathic, analytical, organisation-sensitive, and communicative.

About us

The Royal Conservatoire (KC) and the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) together form the University of the Arts The Hague. The University College offers a wide range of art courses to around 1,800 students. We also provide preparatory courses for young students in combination with primary and secondary education. The Academy of Performing Arts (ACPA) has been set up in partnership with Leiden University to offer programmes at minor, master's and doctoral level. The University of the Arts is based at two locations in the centre of The Hague.

What are we offering?

The applicable job profile is Psychological Counsellor for Students in salary scale 11 (CAO HBO). The salary is a maximum of €5,332.48 (scale 11) gross per month for a full time appointment (36 hours), depending on qualifications and experience.

We are offering a temporary appointment for one year with the prospect of a permanent position in the event of sufficient financial resources and proven suitability. An extensive benefits package including a generous holiday scheme, 8% holiday allowance and a yearend bonus of 8.3%.
