A 3-day online symposium on the hesitant state of design education and discourse.

With a.o. Saskia van Stein & Alice Twemlow and Imad Gebrayel & depatriarchise

25-26-27 May
5:00 - 6:30 pm

Over the past few years, design (discourse) has been learned and unlearned, done and undone, patriarchised and depatriarchised, colonized and decolonized, centralized and decentralized, and so on. Meanwhile, (departments of) schools are wandering, not-yet, unsettling, or impermanent, making way for anything other than vast- or sturdiness. These acts of undoing, unlearning, unmaking, etcetera create for a certain pause, a hesitation, a halt, a stutter, a moment to (re)consider what should be said and, most of all, what should be done. If all within design is being undone, unmade, unlearned, what is it exactly that is being done, being made, and being learned?

The unununimimimdededesign online symposium and upcoming publication offers a view from within and upon design education and discourse by means of a selection of different ‘case studies’ that reflect upon the current state of continuous questioning and interrogation in which design actively resides today. It is not meant as an extensive overview, but instead as a collection of peeks into the diverse views, ideas, reflections and questions that design practitioners and educators are dealing with today.

Join us during this 3-day online symposium and engage in the conversations Joannette van der Veer (curator and editor Onomatopee) will have together with selected contributors of the publication.
