In December 2020, Fault Lines : KABK Research Symposium, our annual critical celebration of research at KABK took place online in the form of a day of ten studio visits. But we also launched a new website!

As part of the Research Group and Teaching Tools Research Group, ten amazing researchers took the audience on a live guided tour of their studios or the place where they do their research, via Zoom.

Among others, we enjoyed: a performative discussion about craft in the KABK Wood Workshop; a visit to a photographer’s studio in Amsterdam; a walk in a Noordpolder landscape; a deep dive into a digital database; and a journey into the dimensionality of a virtual backdrop. Our guest critics were the environmental psychologist Adeola Enigbokan and software artist and author Marloes de Valk.

Additionally we also expanded our online presence and launched faultlines.online. On this website, specially created for us by designer and coder Vera van de Seyp, all researchers showcase their projects-in-progress which include notes, readings, sketches and iterations.

We invite you to explore the projects alongside the videos of the presentations and feedback sessions which we will be adding soon. Make sure to bookmark faultlines.online as more will be added in the coming months!
