The KABK has a well-equipped library, located in the heart of the building.

KABK library
The impressive plaster church portal, which is placed around the library exit, is a striking part of the library’s interior. It is a reminder of the Museum of plaster copies that was housed on that spot in the Academy between 1920-1960.

The library catalogue/collection

The collection includes more than 15,000 books and over 70 magazine subscriptions related to art and design in the broadest sense, both theoretical and more practice-oriented.

The library serves to support all bachelor and master programs of KABK. We strive for a collection that responds to developments in society that are relevant to contemporary art and design practice, research and discourse.

Besides an inspirational source for research, the library is a great place to study, or work on individual projects. Students can consult the catalogue online.

The well informed librarians are motivated to share their knowledge about the collection, and to advise students in their research.

The KABK is ideally located in close proximity to, among others, the National Library (KB), RKD - Netherlands Institute for Art History, the public library (Bibliotheek Den Haag) and buildings of Leiden University in The Hague.

For more specialised research or research based on digital databases we recommend to make use of their services. Some institutions offer free subscription or student discounted subscription.

Students can register for free at the Leiden University Library (with the possibility to transfer books from Leiden and pick them up at the campus in The Hague). A subscription to the National Library of the Netherlands (KB) can be arranged with a student discount.

Students of the Royal Academy of Art receive a 50% discount on their KB membership (€ 7,50 per year). KB membership allows online access to all digital collections and services of the National Library.
