Head Graphic Design

Roosje Klap is head of the Graphic Design (BA) department at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK). Together with her team Roosje implements innovative and research-based design classes focusing on crafts in typography, artistic research, new media, storytelling, and coding.

Roosje Klap (1973, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) researches the experimental boundaries of custom fit design, peculiar yet collaborative in close collaboration with artists, curators, architects, (type) designers, and writers with her studio ARK.Amsterdam. Her research-based interdisciplinary approach represents a generation of graphic designers that define their own assignments alongside commissions.

Klap is a sought-after speaker at conferences, institutes, and art- and design academies worldwide, discussing diverse topics revolving around gender, activism, artificial intelligence, and experimental practices of design. Klap is chairman of Valiz Publishers, board member of the Wim Crouwel Institute and supervisory board member of Oude Kerk.

Klap is a doctoral student at PhDArts / University Leiden, where she researches how digitization, algorithms, and AI are transforming design.
