Petr van Blokland (1956, Gouda) is a type designer, typographer, graphic designer and teacher. He graduated cum laude from the graphic arts program at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 1979. He has taught graphic design, typography, and type design for many years at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem.
Petr is the owner, together with Claudia Mens, of Buro Petr van Blokland + Claudia Mens. The studio was founded in 1980 and works in cooperation with employed designers and a network of participants per project. Petr van Blokland specializes in corporate identities, web applications, typography, type design, designing the design process, design automation, online applications and websites, developing software tools for designers, design theory and live design games.
Typefaces he designed are among others Proforma, Derform and Productus. His work brought him ATypI’s Charles Peignot Prize in 1988.
