Gijsbert Dijker

Gijsbert Dijker teaches the Design Office elective (together with Chantal Hendriksen) and is internship coordinator of the Graphic Design department at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK).

Gijsbert Dijker (1954, Rotterdam, The Netherlands). After his graduation at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and a bachelor study Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam he worked in the eighties for many years as senior designer and team leader at Total Design on visual identity and signing projects.

In the early nineties he founded together with Sandra Neerincx studio Dijker & Neerincx BNO. The list of clients includes names like Het Muziektheater Amsterdam, Het Nederlands Dans Theater, Schönberg Ensemble, VPRO, AMC and many more. Gradually, Dijker became interested in moving images and made company films and leaders for conferences.

Dijker is interested in communication and semiotic issues and is looking for answers on questions as: Is the intended seen and is the seen intended? He is trying to find out what signs mean; did she wave me goodbye or did she just wipe the fogged window clean? Would it be possible to understand what exactly is meant on both sides of a page, window or screen? At the moment he is working on a novel about this subject.
Dijker is also graphic design teacher and internship coordinator at ArtEZ Zwolle.
