Biology researcher

Esmee Geerken is a Dutch artist and earth scientist. Her artistic practice revolves around the relationship between the human experience and conceptual models of the environment, within and between different temporal and spatial scales, combining unicellular, human, geological and orbital perspectives.

Esmee studied both Earth Sciences and fine art, and is a PhD-researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), studying 'Elements in foraminiferal shells as recorders of past climates.’ Exhibitions and performance lectures have been seen at TeTo Projects, FLAM, Amsterdam; Goldschmidt, Paris; the Gordon research conference on Biomineralization, Boston, and she has been a guest researcher at the CNSI (Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute) and JAMSTEC (Japanese Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology).
