Application and portfolio deadline
Applications for the bachelor Photography (both for the full-time and for the part-time programmes) open on October 1.
In order to apply, you must first register via Studielink and then gain access to our application system where you will be asked to submit your documents including a portfolio.
The deadlines for submitting your portfolio and other required application documents for all candidates (EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA) are:
Priority deadline: 1 March
Final deadline: 1 May

Diploma requirements
- High school diploma
High school diploma comparable to a Dutch VWO, HAVO or MBO 4 diploma.
You can check the equivalent Dutch level of your diploma on the Nuffic website. - Proficiency in both spoken and written English
Non-EU/EEA candidates are required to provide proof of English Language proficiency.
EU/EEA candidates' English language level will be assessed during their interview/entry examination day.
Portfolio requirements
As part of the admission and selection procedure for our Bachelor Photography programme, you’ll be asked to provide examples of your work (portfolio), explain your motivation to study at the Photography department of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague and complete various assignments.
Put together a portfolio of your photography and other visual work. Please pay attention: we foremost look at your visual interest, capability and potential. Show us a wide variety of your work; a series of photos with a theme, a subject, experiments, single photos that you are proud of. We are curious to find out what triggers you, what interests you, the 'stories' you want to tell us, which side of photography has your special interest. No holiday pictures! Realize that we will discuss a potential professional future and not the work of an interested hobbyist.

Download and fill in the questionnaire. Keep a copy to bring with you on the entrance examination day.
Select 10 photos from various media channels, like newspapers, magazines, books, the internet and add a small explanation to each of the 10 photos.
- 5 masters: for example, because they show your dream/ambition in the world of photography or find them stimulating for other reasons.
- 5 disasters: photos that really irritate you! You really do not want to be that type of a photographer or do not like that type of visual language

Make a series of 10 photos that tell a story with the theme My Club, in which you 'tell' a story only by showing a number of photos in a certain order. Do not add any text! You can only give it a title.

Maintain a step-by-step workbook of your working process of My Club. If you already have more workbooks of previous projects that you can show us, you’re welcome to add that in the pdf. It is important we get an understanding of your working process and of your thinking and creative process. Your workbook or sketchbook gives us a view into your working process, which experiments you conducted, which possibilities you tried and decisions you made in the process towards the end result. It can contain sketches, images and short comments.

Make a collection that reflects your interest in photography, art, society and culture. You can make use of the following objects, materials etc.:
- Reviews of photography and art exhibitions
- Articles on society and social issues, cultural themes, on photographers, photo books, photo exhibitions
- Give examples of books, motion pictures, TV series’ that recently were of importance to you
Please, give your comment on all of these. Show that you more or less know what is currently going on in the world of professional photography.

Application steps and deadlines
The department works with two deadlines, which apply to both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA candidates:
Priority deadline: 1 March
Final deadline: 1 May
We encourage you to submit your application by the priority deadline. By the final deadline, there is a possibility that a waiting list will have already been formed.
