Admission requirements
As part of the admission and selection procedure for the Bachelor Interactive Media Design programme, you’ll be asked to provide examples of earlier work, explain your motivation to study at the particular programme of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) and complete an assignment.

General requirements
High school diploma
High school diploma comparable to a Dutch VWO, HAVO or MBO 4 diploma.
You can check the equivalent Dutch level of your diploma on the Nuffic website.- Proficiency in both spoken and written English
Non-EU/EEA candidates are required to provide proof of English Language proficiency.
EU/EEA candidates' English language level will be assessed during their interview/entry examination day.
Specific requirements
1 PDF, max 100MB.
Your portfolio should include earlier works, either commissioned and/or work made on your own initiative. These may be performances, interactive media (online and offline) or other art or design projects, (interactive) objects, paintings, drawings, collage and/or assemblage, 3D visualisations, animations, photographs, video’s, sound recordings.
It is important for us to understand your creative choices, so the inclusion of research and the documentation of your material -and conceptual process in connection to the projects in your portfolio is highly recommended.
Another important thing: do not censor yourself by not bringing your personal sketch books because you think they are not attractive or professional enough! It is exactly this freedom of creative experimentation, which you often allow yourself to express in these books, that gives us a clearer understanding of your thought process, fields of interest and personality!

In your letter of motivation, you’ll describe:
- Forms of interactivity, technology, media (visual) and design (give some examples) you are interested in
- What you would like to achieve in your studies
- What you would like to contribute to the learning environment
- What drives you to become an active Interactive Media Designer and how do you want yo impact/change the professional field and society
- Specific interests in genres, styles, other disciplines and technology
- General interest in culture, society, communication, technology at large
Make sure to mention in your CV:
- Techniques mastered (e.g. drawing, film, music, carpenting, sculpting)
- Software mastered (basic knowledge of the Adobe Design package is a big plus. Some experience of After Effects, coding, 3D software is helpful.)
- Previous education
Design an object that triggers (social) interaction:
- YOUR interpretation of the assignment is key, so please do not ask what we exactly mean or expect from the assignment.
- The result should either be the object (final or prototype) or a very clear presented visualisation of your design concept.
- If you are invited to come over for an interview you will present the final result again to the committee.
The result of the assignment should be presented in either a pdf document, video or online presentation.
Application/portfolio deadline & admission dates
In order apply, you must first register in Studielink (Dutch national database for admission to higher education) and then gain access to our online application system OSIRIS where you will be asked to submit your portfolio and other supporting documents.
The final deadline for submitting your application is 1 March*.
Selected candidates will be invited to an admission interview.
The interviews will be planned in the week of 14-17 April 2025.
*Applications received between 1 March and 1 May will only be considered if a spot becomes available.
