Study profile

The full-time bachelor's programme in Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague prepares you to be a critical thinker and versatile designer capable of developing exceptional visual communication concepts. Students are encouraged to express their goals by posing questions about the societal duties of a contemporary designer, confronting obstacles in the fast-expanding digital media world and seeking answers to contemporary concerns and dynamics.

In the video below, students, teachers and the heads of the department tell you more about the Graphic Design programme:

The study programme consists of traditional design subjects such as graphic design, image development, typography, and letter design, as well as digital subjects such as interactive design and coding. The programme is backed up with a robust theoretical program that alternates between art and design history, philosophy, and research.

Professional and entrepreneurial skills are built over time, equipping students for a variety of professional fields. These key courses serve as the common thread, and as the study proceeds, they increasingly produce synergy and drive the student's individual choices and development. They are expanded further through elective courses such as design research, design practice, motion graphics, and lettering specialisation, culminating in both practical and autonomous graduation projects.
