After graduation

A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is a globally recognized degree, opening doors for you to pursue further studies at a master's program (MFA, second cycle) and, if you choose, a doctoral degree (PhD, third cycle). A typical master programme that follows the Bachelor Fine Arts is the Master Artistic Research at the KABK. The University of the Arts, The Hague is one of the few art schools in the Netherlands that offers a PhD route.

Many of our graduates have advanced their studies at prestigious postgraduate programs, such as the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten and De Ateliers in Amsterdam. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts is often a prerequisite for applying to grants, scholarships, and residency programs both in The Netherlands and internationally.

Being an artist

As a visual artist, you play a multifaceted role in society. You create art to give life meaning and significance, your uncover hidden qualities, and offer critical commentary on social phenomena. Your involvement can be tangible through objects, or theoretical through thought processes, performances, publications, lectures, and artistic interventions in political, economic, and social settings. Beyond creating art, you also need to establish your presence in artistic and social environments as a researcher, producer, networker, organizer, and manager – all simultaneously.
