Miriam Bestebreurtje studied Photography at the KABK and Art History at the University of Amsterdam. Following a career as curator, writer and lecturer in photography and lens-based media, she has spent the last seven years leading the Master's degree programmes at AKV|St.Joost. In 2017 she was responsible for the successful merger of all the Master's programmes into a single Master Institute, that recently moved from Breda to its own building in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Miriam Bestebreurtje is also chair of the Young Talent Work Experience Grant committee of the Mondriaan Fund and a member of the Visual Arts and Culture Grants committees of the Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund.

Miriam Bestebreurtje: “The role of art and design is constantly changing. Art education contributes to these changes and helps to shape them. It is interesting to consider the question of how an art academy can align the ambitions of its students to an optimum preparation for a professional career in a field that is so international and in motion. I am very much looking forward to contributing to the high quality of education at the KABK and to strengthening the collaboration with Leiden University.“
