KABK students contribute to the 25th-anniversary of STAB

12 April 2021

This year marks the 25th-anniversary of the Foundation of Independent Court Experts in Environmental and Planning Law (Stichting Advisering Bestuursrechtspraak voor Milieu en Ruimtelijke Ordening, STAB) and as part of the celebrations STAB plans to bring out a publication.

The intention of this publication is to present various perspectives on the role and activities carried out by STAB in the context of environmental law. Therefore students of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) were given the assignment to provide contributions from an artist's/designer's perspective for this publication :

How do artists represent the conflicting interests that lay claim to space in a small country such as the Netherlands? How do they view the role that STAB plays in that context of environmental law?

STAB is an independent organization that operates within environmental law. STAB consists of a group of experts who impartially and objectively look at the facts and circumstances involved in a case and report to the court. STAB investigates cases in the area of the environment and spatial planning, for example the construction of a wind farm or freeway, nuisance from smells or noise, discharge of waste water, or effects of radiation. STAB is an independent foundation and can only be called upon by courts and the Council of State. Because private parties cannot engage them, STAB can guarantee its independent position.

Publication and exhibition

In the context of this collaboration, students of the Master Photography & Society (MAPS) and students following the Design Office (DO) elective of the Bachelor Graphic Design have immersed themselves in the subject matter of STAB and are working in their own way on a contribution for the publication that will appear in the autumn of 2021.

The wish is to present the work of students and the book during an exhibition too. Curious about the results of this project collaboration?
