Winners Young Talent Award 2022

1 November 2022

Interactive/Media/Design alum Isabelle Nair-Lacheta and Master Artistic Research alum Nausi Love won the Young Talent Award, part of the Manifestations expo during the Dutch Design Week 2022.

Nausi won this prize with the collaborative project on magic, drag culture and contemporary escort, called 'Nest of a Magpie/Home of a Whore'.

Isabelle won the prize with the project 'G1rl W0rld'. G1rl W0rld (2022) explores the theme of gender by reclaiming traditional craft and uses its political potential to work against a history of violence and repression against women to be both radically disruptive and radically reparative. The project examines the role of aesthetics and archetypes by leaning into the caricature of femininity, via hyper-feminine and hyper-sexual aesthetics, to critique and reject the male gaze and reclaim the power of that femininity.

In addition to the two KABK alums, Alma Teer (Gerrit Rietveld Academie), also won the Young Talent Award with the project 'The Best Jewellery A Woman Can Wear Is Her Smile'.

All three works are designed from an inner need and manifest themselves in an accessible way to a wider audience. The designers are not left out: it is about sexualisation and objectification. The three works denounce the sexualization of women through emancipatory and provocative design. It is this theme that responds spot-on to the zeitgeist. According to the jury, the works each highlight a different side. "The projects are bold, confrontational and layered. Sometimes more technological, focused on systemic change or strong in its materialisation." In addition to the Young Talent Award, the three winners will also receive 250 euros each.
